For years, Sam Smoothy has made his mark on the Freeride World Tour. After wild rides all over the planet, he set out to ride Mt. Cook with friends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then he set off to explore and ride the wildest places on the planet: whether in Alaska, Peru, North Korea or on a volcanic island in the South Pacific. But the mountain that keeps Sam most busy is the highest peak in his home country of New Zealand: Mt. Cook. He is particularly fond of the steep 1600-meter-long east face. It has only been climbed a few times so far – and then only in the classic alpine style. This mission requires an experienced team, which he has in place with his European friends Xavier De Le Rue and Nadine Wallner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the weather doesn’t want to cooperate at all on that mountain, which is called “Aoraki” in the Maori language – translated “The Sky Piercer”.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
