Bizarre is the uninhabited and remote Kuril island Onekotan with the almost circular Kaldera Lake, which in turn has a perfectly shaped volcano in its center. Fascinated by a satellite image, local freeriders Matthias Mayr, Matthias “Hauni” Haunholder and their Swiss colleague Phil Meier decide to attempt to ski the volcano.

After a long planning and journey with an exciting boat trip at the end, they land on the beach of the island on the Pacific Ring of Fire, which belongs to Russia. But the great adventure is just beginning. In order to survive in the inhospitable environment and come out of it in one piece, they have to bring all their experience together and keep a cool head more than once.
