Joi Hoffmann is a passionate user of Google Earth. When he discovers a huge black hole in the middle of a Kyrgyz glacier, his curiosity is aroused: Yes, here, in one of the most remote places on earth, gold is being mined on a grand scale. And all around, steep mountain slopes invite visitors to shred at an altitude of more than 4,000 meters. The only question is: Is there a way through the mine site and into the region’s most interesting glacier valley?

And: Will Joi and his buddies Mitch Tölderer, Fabi Lentsch and Michi Trojer also find gold themselves? Or isn’t the search for white gold adventure and reward enough anyway?

A gold mine at 4000 m, a Russian off-road vehicle, a fox, two tents, four skiers, a filmmaker and two weeks of time are good ingredients for an exciting story in the Kyrgyz mountains. Between the gold digging, off-roading and camping, the focus is on the skiing of almost all the protagonists (except the fox). Lured by the “easy” access of the remote mountains, the group sets off in search of steep ice flanks and descents of the Ak-Shirak Mountains. The floating snow typical of Kyrgyzstan, mine perms and bad roads provide the trip’s moments of suspense.
