For years, Sam Smoothy has made his mark on the Freeride World Tour. After wild rides all over the planet, he set out to ride Mt. Cook with friends.

Then he set off to explore and ride the wildest places on the planet: whether in Alaska, Peru, North Korea or on a volcanic island in the South Pacific. But the mountain that keeps Sam most busy is the highest peak in his home country of New Zealand: Mt. Cook. He is particularly fond of the steep 1600-meter-long east face. It has only been climbed a few times so far – and then only in the classic alpine style. This mission requires an experienced team, which he has in place with his European friends Xavier De Le Rue and Nadine Wallner.

But the weather doesn’t want to cooperate at all on that mountain, which is called “Aoraki” in the Maori language – translated “The Sky Piercer”.
