Dino Flatz: “We wanted to make a comedy movie and include our ‘Scu'”
Ski pro Dino Flatz and Freeride World Tour snowboarder Timm Schröder – aka Timmy Shredder – are not just pretty good friends, but truly best friends. In “SCUrrari,” they tease each other a lot. Dino tells us in this interview why a movie about such a cool relationship is super fun.
How did the idea for “SCUrrari” come about?
Dino Flatz: Timmy and I have this running joke or battle cry, “Scu!” And we wanted to make a movie that was more comedy-based. Our idea was to present ourselves as “top professionals” and say that we’ve earned a Ferrari through our success. But then we’re using the other person’s sports equipment – so I’m on a snowboard, and Timmy is on skis. This is followed by a break in the film, and reality shows up with the right equipment. That was the original idea, though it ended up evolving a bit. But in any case, we wanted to make a comedy movie and include our “Scu.”
Did the shoots really seem as fun as they appear in the film?
Yes, it really was a ton of fun. It had been our dream for years to do a project together. And we’re best buddies who love spending time together. The shoot was really cool and never felt like a chore. Of course, organizing and handling the back-office work for a film project can be a bit tiring, but the filming itself was always amazing. The only hard part was finding enough time during the season. Timmy was on the World Tour, and I was busy guiding and working on another film project. But whenever we had time, it was always awesome.
What really makes a friendship?
The most important thing is that you’re always there for each other. Timmy and I met through shredding and sports, but by now, we advise each other in all aspects of life and have a great friendship. In the end, what makes a friendship is having a common interest, a shared passion where both people work towards something and thrive. And when you find something you both love, you’re a power team. We’re both very happy to have each other.

How much time do you spend together?
Throughout the year, we’re probably together for half the year – physically. Beyond that, we’re in contact every day. So, we spend a lot of time together. So much that my girlfriend almost has a problem with it. Timmy spends half of the winter living with me and half at his own place in Zillertal, where I’m often as well. If we’re not out traveling somewhere else, we’re basically always together.
How did it feel to be out in the field with each other’s sports equipment and jumping over kickers?
The switch-up day, when we swapped equipment, was one of the favorite days for both of us. In general, we always poke fun at each other and “hate” on each other about snowboarding and skiing – not just for the film. But it was really awesome to be snowboarding while Timmy was skiing. First of all, it’s real fun, and second, it gives you a lot of respect for the other person again. Like, seeing how Timmy handles a snowboard – I just realized how hard that is. It was definitely a great experience that humbled both of us and gave us even more respect for each other. Bottom line: I’ll definitely snowboard more, and Timmy will ski more. And we’ll definitely do more of these kinds of things together.
